Guidance for employers on RTI reporting obligations for payments made early at Christmas.

We know that for most businesses it’s a Christmas tradition to pay your employees early. It’s important when submitting your Full Payment Submission (FPS) in Sage 50 Payroll that you report the pay date as the usual date of payment.

For example if you usually pay on 31st of the month and in December you bring the payday forward to 18th December, report the payment as 31st December not 18th. For this example your FPS in Sage 50 Payroll would need to be submitted on or before 31st December.

The reason behind doing this is to help your employees who are eligible for Universal credit as reporting an early payment could affect their future entitlements.

We advise to seek further advice from HMRC if you need assistance when submitting your FPS.
